Tue, 2015-03-31 (All day)
P. Buckley Moss and Judith CaryThe P. Buckley Moss Society initiated the Judith Cary Leadership Memorial Scholarship in 1999. It is awarded to a student who is working either full time or part time toward special needs certification or an undergraduate or graduate degree in some field of Special Education.  Judy Cary retired after teaching for 25 years at Ramsey High School in Ramsey, IL. For years she served as the Membership Recruitment Coordinator of the Moss Society; attended every Moss Convention, Society-sponsored trips, and numerous Gallery Shows With Pat.  She was a willing volunteer before her sudden death on January 16, 1998.  Initial funding for this scholarship was provided through donations by Judy's friends and an auction of a donated print by P. Buckley Moss with framing donated by The Country Framer Gallery and Judy's Society brooches donated by her family.
Nominations for the Judith Cary Scholarship can be made only by members of the P. Buckley Moss Society. For information on obtaining a nomination, contact the P. Buckley Moss Foundation  on 540-932-1728 or Foundation@mossfoundation.org or Brenda@mossfoundation.org.
The 2014 Judith Cary Memorial Scholarship Winner is is Laura Gardocki of Londonderry, NH

Laura has wanted to be an educator since she was eight years old when in the second grade she became friends with a boy with Down syndrome.  During high school, she pursued her interest in special education with a summer job of taking care of a child with Down syndrome.

While attending University of New Hampshire for an undergraduate degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders, she has taken opportunity to stay involved with teaching (i.e., teaching assistant for American Sign Language, tutor for student athletes) giving her the opportunity to create lesson plans, practice exams, and grading rubrics.

Laura enjoys helping students successfully tackle challenges and has found her experiences reaffirm that going into Special Education is exactly what she wants to do with the rest of her life.  Laura will be pursuing her Master’s Degree in Special Education
